Educational BackgroundI grew up in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and graduated from Oshkosh West High School in 2006. After graduation I attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where I earned degrees in History and Broadfield Social Studies. In the Summer of 2008 I studied abroad in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic, which is actually how I met my wife, who was also on the trip! I completed my student teaching in the Fall of 2010 at Auburndale Middle School and High School and got my first coaching experience there as well.
I graduated with a Master's Degree in Instructional Technology through the University of Alabama in 2022. I am hoping that continuing my education in the field of Instructional Technology will open up new possibilities for how I can utilize technology in class and improve my overall teaching skill. Plus, now I get to refer to the Alabama football team as "we", "us" and "our"! |
Mr. Honish at schoolMy educational philosophy is to build strong individual relationships first and foremost.
I am a firm believer in gameification and game based learning to increase motivation and engagement. I run a year-long class competition between all my class periods where they are continually scoring points for various tasks with a grand champion crowned at the end of the year. I love adding all kinds of twists throughout the year as part of the class competition. To quote one of my guilty pleasures, the show Big Brother, "EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED". There may be easter eggs, temptations, curses, power items... who knows? I also love creating videos including Flipped Classroom content and music parodies. You can watch my alter-ego "H-Dub" embarrassing himself through educational rap on my YouTube channel HERE. I wish my flipped classroom videos could be like John Green and CrashCourse, but hey... I try! I often link my flipped classroom videos through EdPuzzle which allows me to check student understanding and provide quick feedback on their progress. |
